What should I type exactly to move multiple files to my doents from ex. hard drive using dos?

I tried copy j:\new-downloads\*.txt c:\doents and settings\john\my doents I keep getting a syntax error. I even tried going directly to new-downloads directly and copying from there and still get syntax error. Any help will be appreciated.
