Birth control pills affecting next "normal" period?

Ladies, my last period was Dec 1 and I started birth control pills on Dec 3 to suppress my next period, due to vacation. But, after only about weeks in, I had some breakthrough bleeding for a couple of days and just stopped altogether. I "think" my next period then started a few days later, on Christmas day, but was very light and didn't last as long. But I'm not sure if it was a period or not! Since then, I've had cramps, bloating, etc but no bleeding....does anyone know how long it should take to get back to "normal" after having only taken bcp's for two weeks?
