I have a pastel still life by Renaud Hoffman. I can find nothing about the artist. Anyone know who he is?

The picture was likely purchased in California in the 30s or early 40s at the latest. It is a still life of a bouquet of roses in a purple vase next to a window, with some books and a small drawing of a woman's head and shoulders. I have found a film director from that era named Renaud Hoffman, but can find no details of his life, thus have not been able to get an indication if he was a sometime artist, too.
